With the holidays rapidly approaching, and everyone busy crafting, baking, shopping, wrapping, and decorating, did you find time for some thrift shopping this week?
I did! While shopping in a neighboring town, I took a few minutes to visit the GW Boutique and found two items that I liked. Usually I purchase vintage items but not this time. Here, is what I found...

I liked the cut of this trench coat but, I wasn't loving the satin around the bottom. The price was $19.99, a size 8 that could fit either of my daughters and the label inside the coat said...
Does Coach manufacture clothes in China?
Is this a fake or could it be real?
This is marked Coach, but I don't know.
The stitching and the snap closures are sewn nicely.
I did a quick search on eBay and found someone selling this same Coach (?) coat. Their coat was new with tags, and the opening bid on the Satin Trim Winter Walking Coat was $199.00 with a buy it now price of $249.95. There was no photo of the Coach inside label. Would their label have said made in China?
I've come to the conclusion that it's a lovely coat that is well constructed, and after it's dry cleaned will make a nice coat for one of my girls. For the cost of $19.99 plus dry cleaning, I purchased a coat at a reasonable price. Does anyone know if this is an authentic Coach coat or if it's fake?
Don't you love it when you're standing in the isle at Goodwill, and the clerk wheels a cart full of merchandise to be shelved right next to you? That's exactly what happened when I found this...
A Staffel Stoneware Wine Jug made in W. Germany with six cups.
I need to translate what it says on the wine jug.
According to Google this is a modern day makers mark,
but for $6.99 I decided that it would be fun to own this set.
What did you find this week while thrift shopping? I can't wait to see!

I don't know if it's real but it sure is lovely!
ReplyDeleteIt is really a lovely coat. Likely not a real one but who cares, it is lovely!
ReplyDeleteThe coat is amazing! I actually just read an article in Consumer Reports last month about outlet stores vs. retail stores and if there really were bargains to be had. One of the stores debated was Coach and they compared a few wallets, bags, etc. Much of their merchandise (outlet & retail) was made in China and India and the like so I'd say...certainly could be the real deal! Great find! I wouldn't let the "China" label throw you off! Obviously if your gonna sell it you may want to dig a little deeper, but if it's for yourself or your daughter I'd say "Wear that coat with some Swag!!!" Lol

Here was the link to the article, think you have to subscribe to see the comparisons but worth a shot ...

That coat was an incredible find. Even if it were a knock-off, it's gorgeous. And, no, I didn't have time for thrifting this weekend. I'm jealous!
ReplyDeleteI think the coat looks great! A good buy.

Cute coat - and very nicely finished. (I could imagine Sarah Michelle Gellar wearing it in an early episode of Buffy the Vampire Slayer)
ReplyDeleteI link with Her Library Adventures too :-) Your coat was a major find! Love it! Following you!!
ReplyDeleteThere's no reason why it can't be real, plenty of the big brands make garments in China these days. I'm not familiar with Coach clothing, but some designer brands have a hologram on one of the inside labels, they're far harder to fake. But not having one doesn't necessarily mean it is a fake!
ReplyDeleteIt was a great buy either way!
(visiting via Magpie Monday)
I agree with Lakota, many big brand names are now using China to sew their clothing - labor is cheap there. That is why American are out of work.
ReplyDeleteI love the coat, like others here, I think it's the real thing. Great finds!
ReplyDeleteThe lovely @liveotherwise on Twitter has translated your German jug as : "wine in joyous round, happiness to every hour".
ReplyDeleteCheers!
Thanks for linking up xx
i'm not sure...but the made in china bit would have me doubting it. i LOVE the wine bottle. it will be fun to see what it says!
ReplyDeleteIts definitely real. Coach has been making their merch. in China for a few years now. Tag looks legit too. It's gorgeous!!
ReplyDeleteNow I am curious about a Coach coat - did you find out anything else about the manufacturing?
