Happy Dyngus Day

Happy Dyngus Day
Smigus-Dyngus Day
Pronounced:  SHMEE-goos DIN-goos

A Polish tradition observed on Easter Monday or Wet Easter Monday when boys douse girls with water and switch their legs. While this fun filled, spirited Polish tradition isn't widely celebrated in the United States, there are several cities that embrace this tradition. Buffalo, New Year with a large Polish population certainly knows how to celebrate this day with a parade, music, piwo/beer, Polish food, and even crowns a Queen.

I wrote a blog post last year which explains Dyngus Day you can read that post by click here.

  1. I have never heard of that before Paulette but we do have a large Polish population in the Uk and here in Wakefield so I wonder if someone somewhere here is celebrating?

  2. Such interesting traditions! I'm sure they'd be arrested and thrown in jail these days. :-)

  4. What a fun holiday. I have a Polish friend from Brooklyn so I will have to ask her about the day.
