Love at First Sight

After work, I decided to visit  St. Vincent de Paul's Thrift Shop.  As I pulled up next to the curb, I saw it.  Just sitting on the sidewalk next to the wall.  A vintage white enamel table with chrome legs and a red border design around the edges. I couldn't get out of my car fast enough to take a better look and to touch it.  What a beauty!

The chrome legs were rusted, and the enamel had some chips, but I was in love.  As I mentioned in yesterdays post, the Midwest is experiencing 90 plus degree days, and today was no different.  I remember seeing the bank sign reading 98 degrees as I drove to the thrift store.  I was getting a little damp as I dug to the bottom of my purse for my camera, but  I knew I wanted to take a photo to share with all of you.

An SOS pad and those chrome legs would shine nice and bright.

A cute drawer that was lined in yellow floral paper.

The price tag with the dreaded red dot.  Red dots on any item means it won't be discounted ever :-((

No need for a tablecloth with this cheerful red design all around the edges.

The price was $49.99 which I thought was a fair price, but I did not purchase the table.  I have no place to put it, sigh.  Does anyone want me to purchase it for them?  Let me know.

Peony Memories

Hot and humid with a heat advisory, was the weather conditions in Kenosha, Wisconsin yesterday.  The temperatures reached 99 degrees.  Facebook was peppered with photos showing the high temperature. It was a HOT and humid day!  The thermostat is reading 84 degrees right now, and it's not even nine o'clock in the morning.  Forecast for tomorrow is high of 57 degrees with a chance of rain.  I love living in the Midwest.

I went to start the car this morning, and it wouldn't start. It appears that my lights were left on, and it drained my battery. I called my daughter who lives a short distance from me for a ride to school. "Hurry," I said, "I need to be at work before the 7:35 bell."  While waiting outside for my ride, I looked across the street at my neighbors yard and saw her flowers, especially her peonies. Memories of my parents yard quickly came to mind.  A wire white fence surrounded the circle of the most beautiful deep pink and white peonies in their yard. My mother would place a huge vase filled with these pretty pink and white flowers in the center of our kitchen table. I also remember that these flowers were always filled with ants.

Anyway, while waiting for my ride, I decided to take some photos of the neighbors flowers to share with you.

I will wait till the peonies are in full bloom and ask if I can cut some for a bouquet for my kitchen table.  Memories of my mothers flowers made me forget my car didn't start, for a brief moment.

Help Me Become a Tea-Totaler

I don't drink tea. It's not that I dislike tea, I just never think to buy it.  When I'm not feeling well, people will tell me, "drink tea it will make you feel better." I don't because I have no tea in my house.

However, I have tea pots. Brown tea pots with beautiful painted designs on them with gold trim.  Different sizes, shapes, and various colors of brown.  Some stamped made in Japan, and others just are stamped Japan.  No idea of the maker, or if they are collectible.  I just like them.

Several years ago I spotted my first brown tea pot, and I immediately picked it up and brought it home.  It seem that every time I went into a thrift store I would see one, and of course, I brought it home with me.  I haven't noticed many of these beauties sitting around the shelves lately.

While reading my favorite blogs, people were purchasing fancy mugs to drink their tea from, others were drinking tea in their backyard enjoying the pretty flowers. While others wrote that they were sitting down with a cup of tea to write their blogs.

So I have decided to purchase some tea and start using my pretty little tea pots.  My question to you is what kind of tea should I buy; loose tea, tea bags, what flavor, or brand?  So all of you tea lovers, help me to become a tea drinker, leave me a comment with your favorite type of tea.

Thrift Share Monday

Linking up to  Her Library Adventure for Flea Market Finds and Apron Thrift Girl for Thrift Share Monday. I enjoy looking at every ones thrift finds and finding new blogs to read.

At this rummage sale, all books were 50¢ BUT at 1:00 p.m. they shouted everything 1/2 price. I was holding The New Century Dictionary, volume A, but I didn't see volume B anywhere, but for 25¢, I brought it home. I like how it looks and how it feels, it was published in 1937, and I wonder what words did people look up. Perhaps a love letter or a Dear John letter, I hope not.

Lovely graphics in the dictionary, don't you think?

I couldn't resist these beauties either, could you?

5¢ was all it took to bring this sweet how to booklet home.

The glass server was one of the first things that caught my eye at the rummage sale.
Priced at $5.00, I walked away. When things went 1/2 price, I thought for sure it would be gone. As you can see I picked this pretty server up for $2.50.
I enjoy hankies and always have one in my purse.  So these sweeties became mine, 3 for 50¢.
The fabric in the background of the last two pictures has pink borders and flowers. It feels like heavy flannel it is soft and the edges are bound.  I believe it is a table cloth, but have never seen one made with this kind of fabric.

My first piece of Pyrex! I have to admit that I never looked twice at these bowls, but after reading several blogs about Pyrex, well I saw this bowl and snatched it up for $2.99.  No lid but the bowl is in great condition.  Now I am on the hunt for a 1 quart lid for my snowflake bowl.

I enjoyed my time looking for things I loved with my sweet sister. Can't wait to look at all of the other Thrift Share Monday finds. Thanks everyone for sharing.

An Author Who Enjoys Thrifting

One of my favorite authors has a new book that will be released on June 7th, Summer Rental, written by Mary Kay Andrews.  Several years ago I started reading her books and found that  they are entertaining, fast to read, fun books. I love that she has a character in some of her books that is into antiques and estate sales. Looking for a  book to read this summer, I would recommend;  Hissy Fit, Savannah Blues, Blue Christmas, Deep Dish, and The Fixer Upper.

Not only is she an author but a "lifelong junker"; read her biography, junking tips, and her blog. Perhaps you will find her as informative and funny as I do.

Thrifted Table Scape

A tea party with thrifted items... and my family said I"d never use this stuff.

Getting the table ready for the Princess tea party.

Goodwill coffee pot $1.99 turned into a center piece.

Pounded Tin, three tired server, was perfect for the sandwiches and pastries.
This was a rummage sale find from several years ago.

Cups, plates, and saucers from all of my favorites thrift stores.

Just before the little girls sat down to eat.

Just a few minutes later :-))

A GREAT time was had by all.

Blogger Friendships

I am a faithful reader of several blogs and have gleaned some very useful information from them. After a frustrating day at work, or sometimes during work {shh}, I check in with my favorite bloggers and things seem a little brighter.

One day a blogger talked about a curler set that she sold on eBay. That afternoon I visited my favorite Goodwill. As I was walking the isles, I saw the exact hot roller set I had just read about.  Checking out the price of the curler set, $6.99, I put it back on the self and continued on, but not for long. The rollers went home with me and up for auction on eBay (see photo insert).

Thank you bloggers, you have given me great ideas, helpful hints, made me laugh, helped me become more socially aware, and have become my friends.
