Let's Look Inside a 1935 Grocery Store

A friend let me sift through a box of her vintage photos sent to her by a relative in California, and I was fascinated with these grocery store shots.

What I wouldn't give to have some of these items, the beautifully illustrated signs, the display tables and showcases. *sigh* Such vintage loveliness. See anything you would like to have?

  2. If you are ever down in Louisiana, plan to visit The Tupper Museum in Jennings. You would love it and the way the curator has preserved the old dry goods store.

  3. Did you see the Dolly Madison cakes!? I love looking at old pictures, and anymore I especially looking at not the center of the picture but what is around it. Great!

  4. I agree with Ann, I love taking in old pictures. I think its neat the whole store front opened up, and the placement of the electrical lighting and fans. I also like the fresh pies sitting on the racks!

  5. Lovely photos! A small town near where I grew up still has it's old general store with all the old accoutrements, including the wood stove and pickle barrel.

  6. My grandparents' best friends owned a small grocery store with a lunch counter. This was a small operation as it was located in an old house. I used to love going there with my grandparents (especially if it involved lunch). I remember the prices marked with black wax pencil on boxes, cans, and jars. I still have one of the glass containers as they make great storage jars!
