This area is often called "the Cape Cod of the Midwest." Tourism between Memorial Day and Labor Day find the waters filled with boaters, wave runners, and swimmers.
Door County is home to five state parks you can go sightseeing, hiking, camping, swimming, fishing, biking and in the winter snowmobiling.
If you are interested in lighthouses Door County is home to twelve, and all of them are listed in the National Register of Historic Places.
Apple and cherry orchards can be seen as you travel down highway 42, and right now the sides of the roads are peppered with park cars. People were picking Montmorency cherries. Montmorency cherries are sour cherries used for preserves and pies.
Door County has no fast-food restaurants, and no major discounts stores, but has wonderful shops filled with items made by local artisans, Norwegian, and Swedish made items. The restaurants available ranges from fine dining to pizza. I look forward to eating lunch where a hamburger topped with a lobster tail is said to be delicious.
After breakfast we headed to Sister Bay with our cooler full of water, soft drinks, snacks, and our books that we are reading. (I am reading iPad for Dummies.) While the temperature kept raising to 89 degrees, we felt very comfortable with the breeze coming off the bay.
