Remembering and Missing My Dad

I woke up this morning thinking of my father, today is the anniversary of his passing. It has been twenty three years since he has been gone, but because of what he taught me and the values he instilled in me, he is with me every day in my heart and in my thoughts.

My father was a lifelong learner, he loved bird watching, growing African Violets, drawing, painting, reading, and one of his favorite things, was to pass on what he learned, even if we didn't want to know. I have newspaper articles that he cut out from newspapers with the main ideas underlined in red ink.
He often times, using red ink, would correct a letter or short note that I sent to him, and returned it to me via the mail so I would learn from my mistakes. How I love and miss that man.

Afternoon Tea with LuLu Belle

Let's have a tea party, said my sweet LuLu Belle, and so we did.
What a perfect way to spend the afternoon.

We gathered the items needed and set the table for the tea party.
Every item put on the table was  picked out by LuLu Belle.

LuLu Belle tried tea for the first time. Two drops of
tea, cream and several spoons full of sugar.

Pound cake, pretzels, Teddy Grahams, and marshmallows filled
our plates. YaYa, said LuLu Belle, put a marshmallow on the
end of the pretzel and then eat it. It wasn't too bad.

The pound cake was a big hit with LuLu Belle.
We ate our snacks and had a delightful chat...
until the cartoon Doc McStuffins came on, and
that was the end of our chat and our tea party.
After Doc McStuffins was over, I said let's clean up our mess. No, thank you, you can do it, replied LuLu Belle, as if she was doing me a favor.  What a wonderful afternoon!

Cheerfully,
Paulette

I'm Going On a Trip to Find a Rocket Ship

After two months of not going to thrift stores, I visited the Goodwill three times last week looking for an item that was made in 2006.

The bane of my existence, Disney's Little Einsteins Musical Pat Pat Rocket.

This rocket can be found on eBay.
Opening bid $100.
Interested you can find the item by clicking here.
I have now become obsessed in finding this silly toy.  My sweet two and a half year old grandson is a huge fan of Quincy, Annie, June, and Leo. I have DVR'd as many episodes of The Little Einsteins as I can, and often times I find myself humming the theme song from this program.

"We're going on a trip in our favorite rocket ship
Zooming through the sky, Little Einsteins
Climb aboard
Get ready to explore ..."

It may take me awhile, but I am determined to find "Rocket" for my sweet little boy, wish me luck. I'm off to visit the thrift stores in my area.

My Valentine Handkerchiefs

The edges are tatted, crocheted, and rolled, some designs in the middle, some in the corner while others have the design all over, but whatever the style I love Valentine handkerchiefs.

Vintage Pillowcases and Dollies Make a Cute Blouse

Do you have any vintage pillowcases, and crocheted dollies that you love but don't use to decorate your house?

Here is a creative way to turn them into little girls blouses. These pillowcase blouses were created by Charlene Randell who is owner/seamstress of Chazzie's Cuties, in Ellison Bay, Door County, Wisconsin.

This adorable pillowcase blouse is embellished with
a crocheted doily with rose accents, with vintage
buttons added to complete the blouse.

To make the neckline of the pillowcase blouse pop a
crocheted doily is sewn around the neckline.

An embroidered pillowcase was used to create this pillowcase blouse.
Lace and ribbons are use to complete the look of this blouse.

Our whole family vacations in Door County, Wisconsin the last week of July, and I like to purchase a few unique items for my granddaughter LuLu Belle that she can wear during that time. I will pair the rose pillowcase blouse with some red capri leggings and a cute pair of sandals.

What good be better, this brings my love for vintage and sweet LuLu Belle together? Perfect!

Cheerfully,
Paulette

Thrifty Finds

I have fallen off my thrift shopping diet, and boy it feels good!

Here are my treasures . . .

This charming baby bird by Dept. 56, from
the Easter collection is dated 1994.
For 49¢ how could I pass it up.

Followed the sweet bird prints,

and found this cute blue bird.

That decorates this salad plate.

Mama bird feeding her babies,
what's not to like. I liked the
muted color pallet of this tchotchkes.

Until . . .

it slipped out of my hand, and broke.

I will glue the mama bird back, but I don't have any glue.
Hmmm do they sell glue at the thrift store?
I'm off to check!

Cheerfully,
Paulette
